Readlang app download: what actually exists for each device

People search for "readlang app download" in a dozen languages, and the answer is the same in all of them: there is no Readlang app to download. Readlang is a website. What you can install is a browser extension on a computer, or a home-screen shortcut on a phone. This page lists, device by device, what that means and how to do it, then explains the two similarly named apps you will find in the stores. One of them is ours, and it is not Readlang.

Download Readlang Mobile for iOS

Free to start. iPhone and iPad. Readlang Mobile is a separate app by an independent developer, not affiliated with Readlang.

The short answer

Readlang has no native app for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows or Mac. On a computer you install the Readlang Web Reader extension for Chrome, Edge or Firefox. On a phone you open readlang.com in the browser and add it to the home screen. That is the whole download, and it is free.

The apps called Readlang Mobile (App Store) and ReadLang WatchLang (Google Play and App Store) are not Readlang. Readlang Mobile is our own independent iOS reader, made by a different developer and not affiliated with Readlang. WatchLang is a third product from yet another developer. Neither is connected to readlang.com.

Why there is nothing to download

Readlang has been a web application since it launched in 2013. You sign in at readlang.com, your texts and your word list live on the server, and the reader runs in whatever browser you happen to open. The founder's own instructions for phones, posted on the Readlang forum in June 2024 under the title "Install Readlang on your iPhone, iPad or Android home screen", describe exactly that: open the site, add it to the home screen, done.

A native app is one of the most requested things on that forum. There are threads called "Native mobile app?" from June 2025 and "Readlang App possibility" from March 2026, and separate threads asking for offline reading in November 2024 and October 2025. As of September 2026 none of it has shipped. The whole guide to the product is on the Readlang page; this one only answers the download question.

The question arrives in every language. "Télécharger Readlang", "Readlang indir", "Readlang скачать", "readlang install", "readlang app store": all of them lead to the same place. There is no installer, no APK, no .exe and no .dmg: a browser extension for computers, a shortcut for phones. That is how the product is built, and it has a real upside: nothing to update and one login everywhere.

Device by device: what you install and what you get

Every row below is the same website reached a different way. The right-hand column is what changes in practice.

Device What you install What you get
iPhone and iPad Nothing from the App Store. Safari: Share, then Add to Home Screen. A Safari bookmarklet for reading other sites The website full screen without the address bar; translations from the server; no offline
Android phone or tablet Chrome menu: Add to Home screen. Or Firefox for Android plus the Readlang Web Reader extension The same website; with Firefox, any page you open becomes clickable text
Windows PC The Readlang Web Reader extension for Chrome, Edge or Firefox The full desktop Readlang: uploads, library, flashcards, and the extension on any site
Mac The same extensions in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. In Safari, a bookmarklet Same as Windows. The Safari route needs third-party cookies allowed and is fiddly
Chromebook The Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store Identical to desktop Chrome
Kindle Nothing official The site used to open in the experimental browser; a March 2026 forum thread reports it no longer working

Checked against readlang.com and the official Readlang forum on 14 September 2026.

Two things are the same on every row: translation happens on Readlang's servers, so nothing works offline, and your account, uploads and word list are identical wherever you open the site.

iPhone and iPad: add the site to the home screen

This is the official route, and it takes under a minute.

  1. Open Safari, go to readlang.com and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll the sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Keep the name Readlang or shorten it, then tap Add.

The icon opens the site full screen with everything your account already has. For other websites, Readlang publishes a Safari bookmarklet instruction; there is no Safari extension. What the home-screen version feels like day to day, and where it runs out, is on the Readlang on iPhone page, so it is not repeated here.

Android: a shortcut, or Firefox with the extension

Android has two official routes rather than one, and the second is the better one for reading the open web.

  1. In Chrome, open readlang.com, sign in, tap the three-dot menu and choose Add to Home screen. This is the same full-screen website as on an iPhone.
  2. Or install Firefox for Android, add the Readlang Web Reader extension from addons.mozilla.org, and any page you open in Firefox becomes clickable. The Readlang forum calls this by far the easiest method on Android.

Both routes, the steps for each, and the question of APK files are covered in full on the Readlang on Android page.

Windows, Mac and Chromebook: the browser extension

On a computer the "download" is the Web Reader extension, the part of Readlang people praise most: any page you are already reading becomes clickable text.

After installing, sign in at readlang.com once; the extension uses that session. Open any page in the language you are learning, click the Readlang icon, and click a word. Browser by browser detail, including the Safari cookie setting, is on the Readlang extension page.

What the "Readlang app" in the App Store is

Search the App Store for Readlang and you get results, which is where the confusion starts. None of them is published by Readlang.

Readlang Mobile is the app we make. It is a native iOS reader for iPhone and iPad on iOS 18 and later, built for the same habit: tap a word while reading and the translation appears in the sentence; tap the first and last word of a phrase and the phrase is translated whole. It is an independent product from a different developer. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Readlang. Your Readlang login does not work in it, and it cannot import a Readlang word list. The two products are set side by side on the Readlang vs Readlang Mobile page.

ReadLang WatchLang, which appears on Google Play and in the App Store, is a third product from yet another developer. It is not Readlang and it is not ours. The shared name is the only thing the three have in common.

The reliable test: readlang.com links to no app store, and the only mobile instruction Readlang publishes is the home-screen shortcut above. Anything in a store carrying the name was made by someone else.

APK, mod and "premium unlocked" downloads

Searches for "readlang apk", "readlang premium apk" and "readlang mod" lead to file-sharing sites promising a Readlang app with Premium switched on. There is no such file: Readlang has never published an Android app, so there is no APK to crack. Whatever those sites host is a thin wrapper around the website with someone else's code inside, or an unrelated app renamed.

A "premium unlocked" version is also impossible in principle. Premium is a subscription attached to your account on Readlang's servers; the phrase limit and the AI limit are checked there, not on your phone. A modified file cannot change what the server allows. The realistic outcomes of installing one are typing your Readlang password into an app you know nothing about, injected ads, or malware, with no update path when it breaks.

If the goal is Readlang on Android, use the two free routes above. If the goal is not paying, the free plan already gives unlimited single-word translations and ten phrases a day.

What a native app gives that a shortcut does not

For many readers the home-screen shortcut is enough, and nothing on this page should talk you out of an account you like. Where a native app differs is in three specific places.

The trade-offs are just as specific. Readlang Mobile covers the roughly twenty languages Apple Translation supports on the device, against Readlang's hundred-plus. It has no browser extension, no YouTube player, no spaced-repetition flashcards and no CSV export, and it runs only on iPhone and iPad; there is no Android version. The free plan allows 30 translations a day with phrases up to six words; Premium is $8.99 a month or $59.99 a year through the App Store.

Questions people ask

Is there a Readlang app?

No. Readlang is a web app with browser extensions for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. On phones its official instruction is to open readlang.com in Safari or Chrome and add it to the home screen. Readlang has not published an app in the App Store or on Google Play.

How do I download Readlang?

On a computer, install the Readlang Web Reader extension from the Chrome Web Store (Chrome, Edge) or from addons.mozilla.org (Firefox), then sign in at readlang.com. On a phone, open readlang.com in the browser and use Add to Home Screen. There is no separate installer for any platform.

Is the Readlang app free?

The website and the extensions are free to install. The free plan includes unlimited single-word translations and ten phrase translations a day. Premium, at $6 a month or $48 a year, lifts the phrase and AI-explanation limits. Anything sold as a paid "Readlang app download" is not from Readlang.

Is Readlang Mobile the official Readlang app?

No. Readlang Mobile is an independent iOS app made by a different developer, and this site belongs to that developer. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Readlang. It does not accept a Readlang login and cannot import a Readlang word list.

Is there a Readlang desktop app for Windows or Mac?

No. Readlang runs in the browser on both. The only installable piece is the Web Reader extension for Chrome, Edge or Firefox; Safari on a Mac gets a bookmarklet instead. There is no .exe or .dmg to download.

Does Readlang work on Kindle?

Not officially. Some readers opened readlang.com in the Kindle's experimental browser, and a forum thread from March 2026 reports that it stopped working. Kindle books with DRM cannot be uploaded to Readlang in any case; only DRM-free EPUB and plain text can.

How do I install Readlang on Android?

Either open readlang.com in Chrome and choose Add to Home screen from the menu, or install Firefox for Android and add the Readlang Web Reader extension from addons.mozilla.org. There is no Readlang APK, and files sold as "premium" or "mod" APKs are not Readlang.

The download is a bookmark; the decision is a chapter

Whichever device you hold, Readlang is free to set up in a minute. Whether reading with a translation one tap away suits you is decided by a real text, and on an iPhone or iPad Readlang Mobile is free to try in the same ten minutes.
